Western Australian Paediatric Bronchiectasis Cohort Study
Lung Function Testing for healthy children and adolescents
Can you help us with our study to understand how a lung condition called bronchiectasis develops during childhood?
We are looking for children and teenagers under 18 years of age:
- who do not have a history of respiratory illness or breathing problems, and
- who are willing to perform lung function testing in Nedlands, Western Australia.
Collection of lung function data from healthy children and teenagers will significantly enhance our understanding of lung function in children living with bronchiectasis.
Through this study we hope to improve the health outcomes of young people with bronchiectasis, which remains a largely underdiagnosed and neglected lung disease in children and adolescents worldwide.

Community involvement
Telethon Kids Institute and Perth Children's Hospital researchers are looking for members of the community to join the Western Australian Paediatric Bronchiectasis Consumer Reference Group. This group is for parents and carers of children who have bronchiectasis. We want the group to be involved with:
- Supporting the development of partnerships between consumers, researchers, Telethon Kids Institute and Perth Children’s Hospital.
- Providing a consumer perspective to both medical and research aspects of bronchiectasis.
- Advising about research and clinical priorities, practice, and policies.
- Improving the quality and relevance of research and clinical activities through consumer involvement
